Triclosan finally on the radar in D.C.

We’re seeing a call for action and that’s good news, Chairman of the Energy and Environment Subcommittee, Representative Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), has set his sites on getting the EPA and FDA to take Triclosan and Triclocarbon seriously.

Markey is honing in on both the human and environmental impacts of these chemicals. He has asked the EPA to review existing data as well conduct an evaluation under the EPA Endocrine Disruptor Screening Program. “Because of the prevalence of these compounds in our waterways and the potential for causing adverse health effects, I believe that triclosan and triclocarban, and any other similar compounds, really need a closer look,” said Markey.

While we wait to see where this goes, you can take action too – read product labels and say no to triclosan.
