Healthy hands will take care of you
Our hands are the common pathway for much of the illness that we pass to each other.
It is both common sense and well established through clinical studies that good hand hygiene is the most effective strategy to prevent catching and spreading infectious diseases such as stomach ailments, colds, and flu. In general this means washing your hands with soap and water at least 5 times a day as well as the appropriate use of a hand sanitizer product.
While washing your hands frequently is important, it is equally important to do it gently. Avoid harsh soaps, sanitizers, and cleaning products that cause inflammation or dermatitis. Dry, cracked, or damaged skin is more easily colonized by germs that may cause disease. When skin is healthy, everything is in balance and it is resistant to disease and recovers quickly from injury. When it is unhealthy, there is an opportunity for infection and disease.
The message is clear and simple. Take care of your skin and your skin will take care of you.
