A Practical Approach to Swine Flu

The CDC Public Health Advisory signaled that the H1N1 flu (swine flu) outbreak in Mexico was the beginning of another global influenza event. It is too early to tell what this will mean or how severe it will be – for now the only safe conclusion is that it bears watching and taking appropriate precautions.

  • Most important – DON’T PANIC – panic is never therapeutic. From the phone calls and the e-mails I’ve received already it’s evident a bit of a crisis mentality is emerging.
  • Prevention is primary – while I urge all of you to avoid overreaction – good judgment and attention to personal hygiene will serve you well.
  • Anyone who feels sick, especially if they have a fever should stay home!
  • Get the straight facts. Web MD has provided an excellent FAQ on this outbreak.

I started blogging in 2006 to provide an accessible source of simple, practical, good enough solutions for the very real problems of health, hygiene, and infectious disease. Please post a comment for me below at any time if you have questions.

Is CleanWell hand sanitizer successful in killing the swine flu virus H1N1, or Virus’s in general?

Just curious is ingenium if effective in killing influenza (and other) viruses? I am a huge fan of CleanWell and wish you sold it by the gallon as I use it as a surface spray too. I have a possible case of swine flu in my household and am wondering if I need to bring out bigger chemical guns to clean.

    Hi Scott,

CleanWell All-Natural Hand Sanitizer is a safe and effective product proven in independent laboratory studies to perform as well as alcohol based products. So you can confidently use CleanWell just as you would an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

To give you some background, hand sanitizers are regulated by the FDA which as a matter of policy doesn’t allow ANY product to make anti-viral claims and it is our company policy to comply with all FDA regulations.

As I’m sure you’ve been hearing the CDC recommends thorough, frequent hand washing supplemented by the use of a hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available. So between our all-natural antibacterial soap and our hand sanitizer you’re covered.

Hi Mia, Please see my response to the comment above which explains that CleanWell sanitizers are just as effective as alcohol based products. As I also mentioned above hand sanitizers are regulated by the FDA, what you may not know is that surface disinfectants fall under a different U.S. regulatory body, the EPA. While I can assure you that our hand sanitizer is very efficacious at killing germs we can not discuss using an FDA regulated product for purposes other than the use prescribed on the label. I’m so glad you’re enjoying our products, wishing your family member a speedy recovery.

Thank you for all info about Cleawell hand sanitizer. I had been using the alcohol base hand sanitizers at work (I’m a dental hygienist) and they really dried out my hands since I used about 20 times a day. Now, I’m happy to introduce Cleanwell products to friends and co-workers

I wish you can make a hand sanitizer with a foaming bottle in the future. I did transfer the hand sanitizer liquid from a 6oz desktop bottle to a foaming bottle.

I am a very big fan of the CleanWell products, especially since having a child.

However, I believe the CDC recommends hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol. That is what was in my local newspaper. I am happy to be corrected if that is incorrect information, but that’s what I just read here.

Thanks – you are correct the CDC does say with at least 60% alcohol, that’s why we’ve addressed the question here about CleanWell’s efficacy compared to alcohol based products. Our products are tested at ATS laboratories – this is the top U.S. EPA/FDA licensed lab used by the leading hand sanitizer brands. The lab tests conducted at ATS prove that our active ingredient is as efficacious as alcohol – killing 99.99% of germs.

A follow up question on CleanWell’s usefulness in killing H1N1, since the last post was 4 months ago.
    - Any official recommendations for use of hand sanitizers for flu prevention that address the active ingredient in CleanWell?
    - Is killing “99.99% of germs,” the same thing as killing 99.99% of flu virus germs?
Thanks for any information you can provide. – John
