Baby Shopping Cart Cover

Baby shopping cart covers have become a familiar site at grocery stores, fueled by news clips featuring contaminated grocery cart handles.

To Use or Not to Use? Good Question.

  1. If you can find a cart cover that works for you, that you will use and wash regularly, it will probably do some good. Consider getting more than one since one will be in the wash when you need it. Before you buy, be honest with yourself – will you really continue using it over time?
  2. If this won’t work for you, then consider alternatives from wiping the cart down with a disinfectant cleaner (many grocery stores offer complimentary wipes by the cart pick-up) and allowing it to dry before strapping the child in, to carrying the baby in a baby carrier.
  3. Either way, wipe the baby’s hands and face before they eat their grocery store snack as well as when you get them out of the cart, just to be sure.

For additional perspective MSNBC has an article that’s a quick read on this topic.

I have to say, it seems like a lot to lug around. A simple disinfecting wipe seems more convenient…

It really is not a lot to drag around, it can live in the car and you are buying stuff at the store anyway.

It is also useful to prevent the kids from getting hurt by rough edges on the cart and rust. Also it prevents gnawing on disgusting surface. We use ours at restaurants on their baby seats as well.
